Vuokatti has seen a significant increase in international tourists, with a record number expected to be attracted in the coming years.
Vuokatti and the entire Arctic Lakeland Finland region are experiencing strong growth in international tourism. Ms. Aija Laukkanen, CEO of the Vuokatti Tourism Ltd, says that the number of international tourists will reach record levels next winter after the coronavirus pandemic.
– We have attracted more international tourists than ever before. The winter season is the strongest attraction in all Arctic Lakeland holiday destinations. The number of charter flights to Kajaani Airport is increasing year by year, Laukkanen rejoices.
– The results of our hard work are clearly visible: 2 years ago there was only one charter flight to Kajaani Airport, last winter there were twelve – and this coming winter season 2025-2026 there will be no fewer than seventeen direct charter flights to our area, Laukkanen says.
The number of charter flights and international tourists for the following winter 2026–2027 has not been finalized, but potential further growth is visible, both on charter flights and via scheduled Finnair flights from Helsinki.
– We have more international tour operators selling Vuokatti and other Arctic Lakeland destinations, Laukkanen explains the reasons for the potential growth.
Vuokatti aims to increase the number of foreign tourists tenfold, with a goal of 1.5 million overnight stays by 2040. The development of Vuokatti is expected to create high-quality accommodation and diverse services, making it an attractive destination for both domestic and international guests. The unique and diverse nature of Vuokatti, along with its ideal climate and year-round activities, are significant competitive advantages for the region.
